“Doing It For The Kids” charity sale

“Hell is gone and heaven’s here, there’s nothing left for you to fear, shake your arse come over here – now scream,” these are the famous lyrics from Let Me Entertain You, the fifth and final single from Robbie Williams’ debut studio album, Life Thru a Lens.

The album was Williams’ first after leaving the band, Take That, and launched what was to become an astonishingly successful solo career.

“Let Me Entertain You is a track synonymous with the 1990s,” said Natalie Downing, Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia Specialist. “You’d hear it playing on every radio station, and all over TV screens. It was incredibly popular, and the video, featuring Robbie’s painted face, showed a surprising new direction for a musician who’d once been the poster boy for pop-band, Take That.

“At Bonhams sale we’re offering lyrics from this world famous track, written by Robbie himself.”

The sale also includes various outfits worn by Robbie, including the cream two-piece suit worn for the music video of the single Radio, labelled inside Gieves & Hawkes No1 Savile Row London (estimate £5,000-7,000), and a navy blue, military-style jacket with RW monogram, worn by Robbie at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert in 2012 (estimate £4,000-6,000). The concert was staged at the end of The Mall, outside Buckingham Palace and was organised by Gary Barlow. Robbie opened the show with a performance of Let Me Entertain You.

“Doing it for the Kids”, The Robbie Williams Collection Sale, will take place at Bonhams Knightsbridge salerooms on Wednesday 15th July 2015 at 15:00 London Time.

I became a Patron of The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice back in 2002. The Hospice is based in my home city of Stoke-on-Trent in central England and provides care and support to children with shortened life expectancy and their families.

Set up in 1999, the Hospice looks after around 200 children who have a life-threatening or life-limiting condition. This means that many of them are unlikely to reach adulthood. As a Daddy myself, I can’t imagine how devastating it must be to have a very ill child or to know that you will lose them one day.

The Donna Louise is there to support families through the good and the bad times, offering much-needed respite, play and music therapy, emotional support, and end of life care- all delivered with incredible love and sensitivity by amazing staff and volunteers.

The Hospice needs to raise more the £3million every year to keep their doors open. So to give them a helping hand, I’m auctioning off a lot of stuff I’ve gathered over the years. Some of these things are really personal to me, whilst some you’ll recognise from shows and music videos. This project has been a nostalgic trip down memory lane for me and I’m delighted that these things will be put to such good use to help a charity close to my heart.

Go on, we’re ‘Doing it for the Kids’ so place a bid and help make every moment count for the children and families at The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice.
